Aseema Charitable Trust is a Mumbai based NGO with a mission to equip children from marginalised communities with high quality, value based education enabling development of their limitless potential. Since 1997, Aseema has been providing holistic and relevant education to Mumbai’s most neglected children – children living on the streets, or in slums and in inhuman conditions. In partnership with the Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (MCGM), Aseema supports three municipal schools in Mumbai and also provides high quality education to the tribal children in the villages of Igatpuri through the Sitabai Kavji Mengal Anganwadi at Jambhwadi and the Aseema Bal Shaikshanik Kendra at Awalkheda. Through various direct and indirect interventions, Aseema touches the lives of over 3,000 children.
Students at Aseema schools are provided holistic education – an amalgamation of academics, music, sports and art. Aseema has an in-house art studio, ASEEMA ROOM 13, which provides the students an opportunity to explore world art. Be it Egyptian, Australian Aboriginal, Gond, Kalighat, African tribal art and Batik, Native American or their own interpretations of works by Van Gogh, Matisse, Picasso, Jamini Roy, Raza, Senaka, Henri Rousseau – Aseema’s young artists have found tremendous joy in creating their very own masterpieces. The Aseema Art Exhibition will be held from 12th – 14th September 2014 at the Cymroza Art Gallery, Breach Candy. The exhibition generates awareness for Aseema’s cause but most importantly contributes to a tremendous sense of pride and achievement amongst children – it is truly a momentous occasion for them to see their art being exhibited before and appreciated by such a large and esteemed audience.
